The American Hotel, operating since 1905, is located in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. This 4-story walk-up building features 7 exterior murals by artists including Augustine Kofie, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, and Kent Twitchell. The property has served as the location of famed music venue Al's Bar and maintains a corner at Traction & Hewitt streets for local street artists.

Rooms include single, double, queen, and family-style configurations, some with bunk beds.
